Metro53 - ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday issued official notifications for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) as well as the extension in service of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu.
According to the Defence Ministry, President Asif Ali Zardari approved the summary for Field Marshal Munir’s elevation, after which the formal notification was released. Under the order, the field marshal will serve concurrently as the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces.
The post of CDF has been created for a five-year term, making Field Marshal Munir the first officer to hold the position.
In a separate notification, the government approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu as the head of the Pakistan Air Force. The extension will take effect from March 19, 2026.
Officials said the notification for the PAF chief’s extension was issued under Article 243 of the Constitution and Section 10-B of the Air Force Act.
A day earlier, President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had jointly approved the summaries related to the new defence appointments.
