Gujrat Administration Reviews Drainage Strategy for GT Road

Metro53 - GUJRAT: The district administration on Saturday reviewed a comprehensive strategy to address recurring drainage issues along GT Road and National Highway N-5 during the monsoon season.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi, was attended by officials of the Motorway Police and representatives of relevant government departments. Discussions focused on measures to prevent water accumulation on key road sections and ensure smooth traffic flow during heavy rainfall.

Among the participants were Assistant Commissioner Kharian Ahmed Sher Gondal, District Council Chief Officer Faraz Mehdi, Deputy Director Development Tasawur Abbas, and other concerned officials.

The meeting examined drainage problems at several locations on the N-5 highway between Gujrat and Lalamusa, particularly in Haryawala, Panjan Kasana, and Kuliwal Syedan, where rainwater frequently accumulates and disrupts traffic.

Motorway Police officials urged the district administration to take prompt and effective measures to address the issue and improve road safety during adverse weather conditions.

It was decided that temporary drainage channels would be excavated along roadside areas in Kharian to facilitate water disposal until permanent infrastructure projects being executed under the Punjab Development Programme are completed.

The meeting also directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to undertake immediate steps to improve the drainage system on the Gujrat side, ensuring that rainwater does not remain stagnant on GT Road and hinder traffic movement.

Officials said the measures were aimed at providing safer travel conditions for motorists and reducing the risk of accidents during the rainy season.
