Metro53 - HYDERABAD: Tensions escalated in Sindh’s Thul area after a dispute over a love marriage allegedly led to an attack on an entire village, where several houses were set on fire and multiple families were forced to flee.
According to reports, Sadra Channa, a resident of Ghazi Khan Channa village, contracted a marriage of her choice with Mohammad Hassan Buriro. Following the marriage, members of the girl’s family and the Channa community allegedly attacked the Buriro community’s village and torched several homes.
Residents said the incident created panic in the area, forcing many families to migrate to safer locations.
In her statement, Sadra Channa said she had married of her own free will in a Hyderabad court and denied allegations that she had been abducted. She maintained that she was an adult and rejected claims regarding underage marriage as baseless.
She further stated that she had left home carrying only a single pair of clothes and had not taken any valuables or belongings with her.
Meanwhile, members of the Buriro community appealed to authorities for protection, while the couple also expressed fears for their safety and requested security arrangements.
Police officials said a case had been registered against around 30 members of the Channa community over the arson attack. So far, five suspects have been arrested, while raids are under way to apprehend the remaining accused.
