Metro53 - ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, departed for Iran on an official visit on Friday, according to security sources, amid Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to help reduce tensions between Tehran and the United States.

Sources said the army chief is expected to meet senior Iranian officials to discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation and the evolving situation surrounding Iran-US negotiations.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic engagement aimed at encouraging dialogue and stability in the region. In recent days, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held multiple meetings with Iran’s top leadership in Tehran as part of these efforts.

Earlier on Friday, Mr Naqvi also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where both sides exchanged views on key regional developments and discussed proposals related to easing tensions between Iran and the United States.

Iranian media reports said the discussions included detailed deliberations on possible frameworks aimed at preventing further escalation and promoting negotiations.

Pakistani authorities have not yet disclosed the detailed agenda or duration of Field Marshal Munir’s visit.
