Metro53 - LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a fine of Rs50,000 for people found dumping sacrificial waste and animal remains in streets and neighbourhoods during Eidul Azha.
According to officials, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also approved the establishment of vigilance squads to monitor and prevent the disposal of offal and remains at prohibited locations.
The decision was taken during a video-link meeting chaired by the chief minister to review arrangements for a comprehensive cleanliness plan during Eidul Azha.
Ms Nawaz directed authorities to launch a public awareness campaign aimed at discouraging citizens from throwing animal waste in drains, canals, streets and other restricted places.
She also instructed officials to ensure special cleanliness measures and monitoring in every city, including private housing societies, railway colonies and cantonment areas.
The meeting was informed that special arrangements would be made for the cleaning of 2,687 major commercial markets across the province, while sanitation work on main roads, intersections and commercial areas would begin during the final hours of Chand Raat.
Officials further briefed the meeting that biodegradable shopping bags would be provided for the disposal of animal waste, while the “Suthra Punjab” sanitation staff would conduct door-to-door collection of sacrificial remains.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said all departments would work as “one government unit” during Eidul Azha to ensure effective cleanliness arrangements, adding that good performance would be rewarded while negligence would invite disciplinary action.
