Metro53 - GUJRAT: A picnic outing turned tragic on Eid day when eight women were swept into deep waters while bathing in the Chenab River near Kot Bela, on the outskirts of Wazirabad, rescue officials said.
According to rescue authorities, local residents managed to save four women from drowning, while the body of one woman was recovered from the river. Three others remained missing, prompting an extensive search operation by rescue teams.
The deceased was identified as Hafsa, while the missing women were named as Samia, Seerat Shehzadi and Iman Fatima.
Rescue officials said emergency teams were deployed to the area immediately after receiving reports of the incident. Search efforts continued throughout the day with rescuers combing the river in an attempt to locate the missing women.
Police and district administration officials also reached the site and joined the ongoing rescue operation.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while visiting rivers and other water bodies, particularly during holidays, and to avoid entering deep or fast-flowing waters without adequate safety measures.
Further investigations into the incident are underway.
