Metro53 - A major corruption scandal involving large-scale organized irregularities has been exposed in the Federal Treasury Office (FTO) in Islamabad.
According to details, it has been revealed that stamp papers were illegally issued from the FTO, while stamp paper fees, court fees, and foreign bill fees were not deposited in the national treasury.
Following the exposure of this mega corruption scandal, the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has registered a case against 71 officers, employees, and stamp vendors, including Senior Auditor Adil Maqbool, who was posted at the FTO.
The case has been registered under sections 109, 409, 420, 467, 471 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 5(2)47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
According to the FIA, a late-night crackdown was launched under the supervision of Deputy Director Afzal Khan Niazi, during which 20 suspects were arrested. Operations to arrest the remaining accused are still underway.
Officials say the suspects, in alleged collusion with several officers and staff members, obtained stamp papers from the FTO office Islamabad using fake licenses. Using these forged licenses, 2,638 bogus TR-32 challans were issued, causing a loss of over Rs. 296.49 million to the national exchequer.
Sources added that the case was registered against 71 FTO officials and stamp vendors upon completion of record retrieval in Abpara Police Station Case No. 527/2025 and Inquiry No. 368/2025. After sufficient evidence emerged, approval for registering the FIR was granted by Director FIA Islamabad Zone Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari.
According to the FIR, a 10-year forensic audit will be conducted to determine the exact financial loss. The roles of officers including ADC(R) Imtiaz Janjua, Superintendent Muhammad Arshad, and other officials of the FTO and DRA Branch will be assessed during the investigation.
The investigation is being carried out by a team led by SHO Shams Khan Gondal, under the supervision of Deputy Director FIA Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad Afzal Khan Niazi.
