Metro53 - GUJRAT: A joint team of the Livestock Department and Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed fines totalling Rs45,000 during an operation against the sale of substandard meat on Shahjahanigr Road’s main bazaar, officials said on Monday.
The inspection teams conducted surprise raids at several meat shops, identifying unhygienic and low-quality meat being sold in violation of food safety standards.
According to the administration, fines were imposed after multiple vendors were found selling meat that did not meet prescribed health and quality requirements. Officials reiterated that the sale of unsafe or contaminated food would not be tolerated and that action would continue under a zero-tolerance policy.
District authorities said ensuring safe, healthy and quality food for the public remains a top government priority, with strict enforcement of food safety regulations underway across the district. Joint teams of the Livestock Department and PFA are conducting regular monitoring drives in various areas to curb the sale of substandard meat.
The administration also urged citizens to report any instances of unhygienic or unsafe meat so timely action can be taken to protect public health.
