Metro53 - Gujranwala (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that the government’s primary mandate is to serve the public and promote provincial development, not to sit outside Adiala Jail.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System, she stated that every development project in Punjab bears the stamp of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. She added that Nawaz Sharif’s legacy continues to drive progress in Punjab, with the Mass Transit project in Gujranwala beginning today.
Thanking the Prime Minister for visiting Gujranwala, Maryam Nawaz said that several developmental projects in the province were inspired by Nawaz Sharif’s vision, and the Faisalabad Metro project will commence in the coming days.
She highlighted that Pakistan’s economy is recovering from default risks and inflation-reduction measures are proving successful. According to Maryam Nawaz, inflation in Punjab has fallen from 40% to 4%, while development continues in sectors including CPEC, Metro Bus, Orange Line, education, and technology.
The Chief Minister said key infrastructure projects in Mianwali and Gujrat are progressing rapidly, and measures are being taken to address rainwater drainage issues across the province. Roads, the Green Line project, Model Villages, and sewage schemes are ongoing throughout Punjab.
Criticizing the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, she said no meaningful steps have been taken there for public development over the past 12 years and advised officials to focus on serving the public rather than staging protests outside Adiala Jail.
Maryam Nawaz also highlighted housing and sanitation initiatives in Punjab, noting that under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program, 100,000 homes are under construction, while thousands have been completed. The “Suthra Punjab” program for waste management is progressing, alongside new sewage and clean water projects. She announced that 20,000 km of roads will be completed in one year and 30,000 km in two years.
