Metro53 - Jhelum (Web Desk): Illegal encroachments on Pakistan Railways’ government land in Jhelum have reached alarming levels, raising serious concerns over the performance of railway authorities. Due to alleged collusion between influential individuals and certain railway employees, the issue continues to worsen, while officials appear completely ineffective in reclaiming the occupied

Illegal Constructions on Valuable Land

The encroachment mafia has constructed various structures on highly valuable railway land, including plazas, houses, warehouses, commercial shops, and residential buildings. Regular business activities are ongoing at these locations, turning the situation into a direct challenge to the writ of the state.

Affected Areas and Expanding Problem

According to details, illegal constructions have become widespread behind Jhelum Railway Station in the Machine Mohalla area. Hundreds of buildings have also been erected along the Old GT Road. Similar encroachments on railway land have been reported in other parts of the district as well.

Local residents state that the issue is no longer isolated and is spreading in an organized manner, yet no effective action is visible on the ground.

Complaints Filed, No Practical Action

Citizens claim that multiple written complaints have been submitted to the authorities. However, these complaints are allegedly shelved without any concrete follow-up. This lack of action has led to growing frustration and disappointment among the public.

Billions in Losses Feared

Residents warn that these illegal occupations are causing Pakistan Railways losses amounting to billions of rupees. If the land were reclaimed legally, it could be auctioned, generating substantial revenue for the railway department.

Demand for Immediate Intervention

Citizens have demanded that Pakistan Railways’ Deputy Director Land and other concerned officials take immediate action. They have called for a lawful operation against the encroachment mafia, recovery of the land, and transparent auctions.

Appeals have also been made to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, and Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani to intervene without delay.

According to citizens, the protection of state-owned land is a matter of national interest, and any further delay could prove damaging for both the country and the public.
