Metro53 - LAHORE: The University of Lahore (UOL) has launched an inquiry into the sudden death of a student, identified as Awais Sultan, with the university’s chairman saying that a committee — including student representatives — has been formed to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with senior anchorperson Farakh Warraich, UOL Chairman Awais Raoof expressed grief over the student’s death and assured that the inquiry committee would present its findings after a thorough review of all available information.
According to the chairman, preliminary information suggests that a day before the incident a teacher reportedly spoke harshly to the student over arriving late to class and not wearing a white coat. However, he said university records showed the student’s attendance was complete, his fee payments were up to date and he was regarded as a capable student with a grade point average above 3.0.
Initial conversations with the student’s roommates and friends indicated that he generally kept to himself and maintained a small social circle, Mr Raoof added. He stressed that the university administration would wait for the committee’s report before drawing any conclusions about why the incident occurred.
Authorities and the university administration are continuing their investigations, and officials cautioned that no final determination could yet be made. Students and the public were urged not to speculate or spread unverified information until the inquiry is complete.
