Libyan Army Chief Killed as Aircraft Crashes After Takeoff From Ankara

Metro53 - Ankara (Web Desk): The aircraft carrying Libya’s Army Chief, General Mohammad Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, crashed after departing from the Turkish capital Ankara. The wreckage of the plane has been recovered after several hours, with all five people on board confirmed dead.

According to Turkish media, the Libyan Prime Minister has confirmed the death of the Army Chief in the crash. Reports state that the aircraft lost contact shortly after attempting to land following its departure from Ankara Airport.

Turkish Interior Ministry officials said the plane departed from Ankara Esenboğa Airport for Tripoli at 8:10 pm and lost contact at 8:52 pm. After an extensive search, the wreckage of the Dassault Falcon 50 aircraft was found in the Hemana district on the outskirts of Ankara.

The Libyan Prime Minister stated that General Al-Haddad was returning to Tripoli after completing an official visit to Türkiye when the accident occurred. Those killed in the crash included the Commander of the Libyan Ground Forces, the Director of the Military Manufacturing Authority, an advisor to the Chief of Staff, and the Chief of Staff Office’s photographer.

The incident has caused shock and grief in Libya, while investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
