Metro53 - Bern (Web Desk) – The death toll from a devastating fire at a bar in a popular Swiss ski resort town during New Year’s celebrations has risen to 47, with 115 others injured. The wounded are receiving medical care at nearby hospitals, with some in critical condition.
According to international media, the incident occurred during a New Year’s Eve party when the bar was crowded. Swiss authorities confirmed that foreign nationals were among the victims. France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that eight French citizens remain missing, and search efforts are ongoing.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started due to an accidental mistake by a waiter, quickly spreading throughout the bar. The building’s wooden floors and interior structure caused the fire to intensify rapidly, leaving little opportunity for people to escape.
In response, the President of Switzerland expressed deep sorrow and ordered national flags to fly at half-mast in Bern for five days. Messages of condolence and solidarity have been received from leaders around the world.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, also expressed grief, stating that Pakistan stands with the Swiss government and people during this difficult time.
This incident is being regarded as one of the worst disasters in recent Swiss history. Authorities are conducting a full investigation to determine responsibility.
