Metro53 - Karachi (Web Desk) – The first supermoon of the new year will appear in the sky tonight, with the full moon expected to look larger and brighter than usual. According to astronomers, the best time to observe the supermoon will be shortly after moonrise during the early hours of the night.
In Pakistan, the supermoon will begin at 5:51 p.m. According to SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), the moon will appear approximately 6 to 7 percent larger than its usual apparent size. Astronomers note that this supermoon is traditionally known as the “Wolf Moon.”
Scientists explain that a supermoon occurs when the moon comes closer to Earth than its average distance. Due to this increased proximity, the moon appears bigger and more luminous, creating a spectacular view in the night sky.
This supermoon is also the final one in the series that began in October 2025. As a result, astronomy enthusiasts and skywatchers are expected to turn their attention to the sky tonight to witness the first supermoon of the new year.
Experts further advised that the supermoon will be most visible in areas with clear skies, and people may also take advantage of the opportunity for photography.
