Speaking to Geo News on the occasion of his court appearance, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that PTI founder Imran Khan has given the authority for negotiations to Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He said Mahmood Khan Achakzai is a senior and experienced politician who can better decide what strategy should be adopted in the prevailing circumstances.
Responding to a question regarding Fawad Chaudhry, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that both of them had remained in the same party. He stated that when he was undergoing treatment in the hospital, Fawad Chaudhry visited him, and now if a guest comes to one’s home, it cannot be questioned why he came. He added that personal relationships should not be sacrificed for politics.
Talking about Afghanistan, the former foreign minister said that Pakistan has provided all possible assistance to Afghanistan, and now it is Pakistan’s legitimate demand that Afghan soil should not be allowed to be used against Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan desires peace and that Afghanistan should support Pakistan in the fight against terrorism.
Commenting on the regional security situation, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the situation on the Iranian border is currently under control. Regarding India, he said that Pakistan defeated India in war and Allah Almighty granted Pakistan honor; however, the threat from India has not completely ended, and therefore vigilance is still required.
