Metro53 - Dubai (Web Desk): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued its response to Pakistan’s decision not to play against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In an official statement, the ICC said it has taken note of the announcement made by the Government of Pakistan regarding the participation of the Pakistan team in the upcoming global event.
The ICC stated that it is awaiting a formal decision from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). However, it emphasized that such a stance is not in line with the fundamental concept of a global sporting event, where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms and adhere to the tournament’s approved schedule.
In its statement, the ICC said that its tournaments are built on the principles of sporting integrity, competition, continuity, and fairness. While the ICC respects the role of governments in matters of national policy, it noted that the decision does not serve the interests of global cricket or cricket fans around the world, including millions of supporters in Pakistan.
The ICC further expressed hope that the PCB would seriously consider the significant and long-term domestic implications of such a decision, as it could have adverse effects on the global cricketing system—of which the PCB itself is a member and beneficiary.
According to the ICC, its top priority remains the successful organization of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, a responsibility shared by all member boards, including the PCB. The ICC expects the PCB to work collaboratively to find a mutually acceptable solution that safeguards the interests of all stakeholders involved.
