Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk): On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Secretary Housing Punjab Noor-ul-Amin Mengal visited Gujrat and conducted a detailed review of development projects underway under the Punjab Development Program. Deputy Commissioner Gujrat Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi accompanied him during the visit.
The Secretary Housing directed that all construction work under Phase One be completed before the onset of the monsoon, as Gujrat faced severe urban flooding last year. He emphasized that, in line with the Chief Minister’s directives, completion of Phase One before the monsoon is a top priority and that safety measures must be ensured at all construction sites.
Managing Director WASA Kashan Hafeez Butt briefed the Secretary Housing on the progress of development work, stating that 137 kilometers of new sewerage lines will be laid in Gujrat, while 10.5 kilometers of old and dilapidated sewerage systems will be fully rehabilitated.
He further informed that work is underway on a 35-kilometer-long drain to ensure effective drainage of rain and floodwater. The briefing also revealed that five new disposal stations will be constructed in Gujrat, while five existing disposal stations will be fully restored and made operational. Following the installation of the sewerage system, 147 kilometers of roads will also be constructed in the city, leading to a significant improvement in civic facilities.
