Speaking on the occasion, Press Club President Syed Naveed Shah said that the minister’s visit was an honour for the journalist community. He stated that the Zahoor Elahi family has deep roots in Gujrat and is taking practical steps for the city’s development, particularly appreciating the provincial minister’s role in drainage and sewerage projects.
Addressing the gathering, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said that journalists in Gujrat have always been treated with respect and that responsible journalism plays a vital role in social reform. He added that local media is highlighting public issues in a positive and constructive manner.
The provincial minister informed that the Service Mor Bridge will be completed within the next month, while work is ongoing on the establishment of WASA Gujrat and the improvement of the city’s sewerage system. He said that Rs 160 million has been allocated for the construction of Rehman Shaheed Road, which is expected to be completed within three weeks.
He further stated that the six-kilometre-long dual carriageway leading to the University of Gujrat has been completed, while development work on Jalalpur Jattan Road is progressing rapidly. He added that the liaison office will soon be shifted to Zahoor Palace. Work is also underway on the construction of an artificial lake at Shehbaz Sharif Park and the upgradation of other parks, while police stations have been equipped with modern facilities.
Chaudhry Shafay Hussain also shared that a survey has been completed for establishing a new industrial estate on 200 acres of land near the GT Road, which will create employment opportunities. Consultations are ongoing with chambers of commerce across Punjab, and progress is also being made on the establishment of Parks and Horticulture Authority Gujrat.
Commenting on political matters, the provincial minister said that those alleging rigging in elections can approach relevant forums. He added that had the opposition avoided irregularities, they would have received more votes.
The provincial minister announced that a grant for the Gujrat Press Club will be released within the current month, and a proposal for establishing a journalists’ colony will also be prepared.
