Metro53 - Mexico City (Web Desk): Mexico’s most wanted fugitive and the powerful leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” has been killed during a military operation.

According to local media reports, the Mexican army carried out a major security operation early Sunday morning in the state of Jalisco. As reported by Reuters, Mexico’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that El Mencho succumbed to his injuries during an air transfer following the operation.

The BBC reported that following news of El Mencho’s death, heightened tensions have been observed across the country, particularly in Jalisco. On Sunday, unconfirmed reports emerged of armed movement and vehicles being set on fire at various locations.

The United States had announced a reward of USD 15 million for information leading to El Mencho’s arrest. His group, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), has expanded its influence not only in Jalisco but across Mexico and is considered one of the country’s most dangerous armed criminal organizations.

In view of the developing situation, the United States Department of State has issued a “shelter in place” warning for its citizens, covering several states including Jalisco, Tamaulipas, and Michoacán.
