Metro53 - Jhelum (Web Desk) – LPG cylinders in Jhelum city and across the district are being sold at prices far above the official rates, causing severe distress among residents. While the government has set the price of a domestic cylinder at around Rs 2,600, agency owners and refill shop operators are charging between Rs 3,800 and Rs 4,000.
Officials have fixed the LPG gas rate at approximately Rs 220 per kg, but in the market, vendors are refilling cylinders and selling them at nearly Rs 315 per kg. Citizens have expressed concerns over exploitation and say that even basic household cooking has become difficult for low-income families.
Residents have criticized the silence of the Assistant Commissioner, Civil Defense, and other authorities, demanding strict action against price-gouging vendors to ensure LPG availability at official rates.
Particularly in Dina, complaints indicate that cylinders are being sold for Rs 3,800 to Rs 4,000, worsening the situation for the public. Citizens have urged the Chief Minister of Punjab and other senior officials to take immediate notice and implement strict measures to enforce government rates.
