Metro53 - London (Web Desk) – The Home Office has announced strict measures against foreign criminals to ensure public safety in the United Kingdom.
Under the new rules, foreign nationals with criminal records will either be denied entry into the country or have their visas cancelled.
According to a statement issued by the Home Office, any foreign national who has been sentenced to at least 12 months in prison in any country will be refused a UK visa or may have their existing visa revoked, even if the crime was committed in the past.
This move is in addition to existing laws under which foreign nationals sentenced to 12 months or more in prison can already be deported from the United Kingdom.
UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made it clear that there is no place in Britain for foreign nationals with a history of crime and violence. She said that anyone who poses a threat to British society or the public will either be denied entry or deported.
The new rules will come into effect from March 26 and will be aligned with immigration regulations under the Sentencing Act 2026.
The government had earlier also announced tough measures against illegal immigration and foreign criminals. Officials say that during the current government’s tenure, nearly 60,000 deportations of illegal migrants and foreign criminals have been carried out, the highest number in the past decade.
