Metro53 - Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a series of immediate and extraordinary measures in response to the ongoing regional conflict and potential petroleum crisis. The measures aim to optimize resource use, provide public convenience, and minimize the impact of the crisis.
Under the CM’s directives:
-
Fuel supply for provincial ministers has been suspended until the petroleum situation stabilizes.
-
Petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles have been reduced by 50%.
-
Protocol vehicles accompanying provincial ministers and senior officers are restricted, allowing only one vehicle per official for essential security needs.
The government has also implemented a work-from-home policy in official offices, with only essential staff required to attend physically. Key operations will continue via online meetings and teleconferences.
Regarding educational institutions, schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab will remain closed from March 10 to March 31, while examinations will proceed as scheduled. Online classes are permitted during this period.
Public services under e-Business and the “Maryam Ki Dastak” initiative will continue to ensure citizens have access to essential facilities.
For effective monitoring of petroleum products, district-level Petroleum Monitoring Committees will be established. The Punjab Information Technology Board has been tasked with creating a modern track-and-trace system for fuel, involving local administration, police, and other relevant authorities.
All official outdoor events have been banned, including the Horse and Cattle Show, which has been postponed. The private sector has also been advised to implement work-from-home policies, limit non-essential gatherings, and keep only necessary staff in offices.
Authorities will strictly monitor transport fares and food supplies across Punjab to prevent artificial shortages or price hikes, with legal action planned against violators.
CM Maryam Nawaz urged citizens to avoid outdoor functions, late-night shopping, and unnecessary stockpiling of essential items. She praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for their decisive leadership in these challenging times.
The CM warned that those attempting to exploit the crisis would face strict action and emphasized that resilient nations overcome difficulties through unity, patience, and wisdom. She expressed confidence that Pakistan would emerge successfully from this testing period.
