Metro53 - LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 new personnel in the Crime Control Department (CCD) along with the allocation of Rs491 million to strengthen law enforcement across the province.

The decision was taken by the provincial cabinet to address the acute shortage of staff in Crime Control Department Punjab and to enhance operations against dangerous criminals, proclaimed offenders and dacoits.

According to official documents, the CCD, established in March 2025, has an approved strength of 7,486 officers and personnel. However, only 3,904 positions are currently filled, leaving 3,582 vacancies.

Officials said the department has played a significant role in curbing crime, with a reported 55 per cent reduction in robbery incidents and a 45 per cent decrease in murder cases since its establishment.

The approved recruitment includes officers across multiple cadres, including SPs, DSPs, inspectors, sub-inspectors, ASIs, head constables, driver constables and constables.

Authorities noted that the shortage of personnel was exacerbated after a number of police officials were transferred to the newly established PARA department, limiting the ability of Punjab Police to support CCD operations.

The Inspector General of Police had earlier submitted a summary seeking approval for the recruitment, which has now been formally endorsed by the cabinet.

The government has also sanctioned Rs491 million in the supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 to cover recruitment and administrative expenses.
