Constable Martyred, One Robber Killed in Police Encounter in Gujrat

Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk): A police constable was martyred while one robber was killed during an exchange of fire between police and unidentified suspects in Gujrat.

According to police officials, the martyred constable, Mirza Umar Aftab, was serving in the Punjab Police and was posted at Jalalpur Sobtian checkpoint under Kharianwala Police Station.

The incident occurred near Bahooch on Doiyaan Road within the Sadr Circle, where two motorcyclist robbers had allegedly looted a family of gold jewelry and cash and were fleeing the scene. Acting on the victims’ identification, police initiated a prompt pursuit.

As the police party approached the suspects, the robbers opened direct fire. Police retaliated, and the encounter intensified near Mauza Doiyaan. During the exchange, the suspects took cover along the roadside and continued firing while police personnel responded strategically.

In the crossfire, Constable Mirza Umar Aftab was struck by a bullet in the head and was martyred on the spot. Police returned fire in self-defense, and after the firing subsided, one unidentified robber was found dead, reportedly killed by his accomplice’s gunfire.

Police also recovered a Honda 125 motorcycle used in the crime from the scene, while the second suspect managed to escape.

Following the incident, heavy police contingents and senior officers reached the site. A search operation is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect, and teams from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency and crime scene units are collecting evidence.

The martyred constable hailed from the village Sagar in Tanda, Gujrat.
