Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, has revealed that in recent days, multiple passengers have been off-loaded at airports despite possessing complete travel documents and valid visas. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of the issue and ordered the formation of a special committee.
Addressing an event organized by the United Nations’ sub-agency, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on the occasion of World Migrants Day in Islamabad, Chaudhry Salik Hussain said that these passenger-related issues are being taken seriously. According to him, the Prime Minister has directed attention not only to off-loading incidents but also to other challenges faced during overseas migration.
The Federal Minister stated that the committee formed by the Prime Minister will prepare comprehensive recommendations to promote safe migration and resolve obstacles faced by citizens. He added that the committee’s key meeting will be held this week, with actionable proposals expected to be finalized by the last week of January.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain emphasized that it is a serious concern when individuals are prevented from traveling despite having valid visas and complete documents, as this not only causes financial and mental distress to passengers but also affects Pakistan’s international image.
Speaking at the event, IOM Pakistan Chief of Mission, Siou Mateo, said that migration is a story of people, opportunities, and development. He added that when youth are provided with accurate information, ethical guidance, and skill-based opportunities, they are more likely to choose safe and legal migration routes instead of unsafe paths.
The event concluded with a commitment that the government and international organizations will continue working together to promote safe, dignified, and well-managed migration.
