Metro53 - LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has formally launched a “Deceased Transfer Service” to facilitate the dignified transportation of bodies to their homes.
In the initial phase, the service will be available at government hospitals in Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi, from where bodies will be transferred to homes free of cost. Authorities said the service will be gradually expanded to all tehsils of Punjab by June.
Under the initiative, each tehsil will be equipped with a dedicated “Deceased Care Service” ambulance for body transportation. The Chief Minister also handed over the keys of the vehicles for Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan to the relevant officials.
Citizens can avail the service by calling the Rescue 1122 helpline, while trained uniformed drivers will remain available 24/7 at government hospitals.
A government spokesperson said the initiative aims to provide relief to citizens during difficult times and ensure respectful treatment of the deceased.
