Metro53 - Abuja (Web Desk) — The Nigerian government has secured the safe release of 100 schoolchildren who were kidnapped a month ago from Niger State, according to local broadcasters. The development emerged yesterday.
According to U.S. media, the incident is considered one of the worst mass abductions in the country’s recent history. On November 21, armed men stormed St. Mary’s Catholic Boarding School in Papiri and abducted 303 children along with 12 staff members.
During the chaos of gunfire and panic, 50 children managed to escape, but there had been no information for weeks regarding the remaining children and staff.
Local broadcasters confirmed the release of the children, though details have not yet been disclosed.
Niger State officials and the Christian Association of Nigeria stated that they have not been formally notified by the federal government.
Daniel Atori, spokesperson for the Christian organization, said, “We have not yet received official communication from the government, but we hope the news is accurate. We await the swift recovery of the remaining children.”
