Metro53 - Sargodha (Web Desk): In a heartbreaking incident, a police van was struck by a train in Sargodha, resulting in the martyrdom of two police officers and injuries to three others. The tragic accident has left both the police department and local residents in deep shock and grief.
According to a police spokesperson, personnel of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) were on routine patrol when the police van was suddenly hit by a train near a railway crossing. The severe collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle, killing two officers on the spot, while three others sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Senior police officials reached the scene soon after the incident, and rescue operations were completed. The condition of the injured officers is reported to be stable. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the causes of the accident.
Punjab Inspector General of Police, Dr Usman Anwar, took immediate notice of the incident and directed the DIG SPU to submit a detailed report. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, he paid tribute to the martyred officers.
The IG Punjab stated that the officers sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and that Punjab Police would never forget the sacrifices of its martyrs. He reaffirmed the commitment to stand by the families of the fallen officers and ensure all possible support for them.
Police officials said that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to fix responsibility, and safety measures will also be reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
