Metro53 - Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Defence Forces for a five-year term.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had forwarded the summary for the appointment after approving Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as both the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces.
According to the official statement, the President has approved the five-year appointment of the Chief of Army Staff as the Chief of Defence Forces.
The President has also approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu.
As per the notification, the extended tenure of the Air Chief will begin on March 19, 2026.
The President conveyed his best wishes for the successful tenure of the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces.
Field Marshal Asim Munir will serve as both the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Forces, and this appointment is for five years.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces.
