Metro53 - KARACHI: Peshawar Zalmi stormed into the final of Pakistan Super League Season 11 after defeating Islamabad United by 70 runs in the qualifier at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan opted to field first. Zalmi made full use of the batting-friendly conditions, posting an imposing 221 for 7 in their 20 overs.
Captain Babar Azam led from the front with a sublime 103 off 59 balls, marking his 13th T20 century and fourth in PSL history. He was supported by Mohammad Haris (35), Kusal Mendis (41), and Aaron Hardie (20). For United, Shadab claimed three wickets, while Richard Gleeson picked up two.
In reply, Islamabad United faltered under pressure and were bowled out for 151, despite a fighting 44 from Sameer Minhas. Zalmi’s bowling attack was led by Aaron Hardie with three wickets, while Sufiyan Muqeem and Mohammad Basit claimed two apiece.
The victory sends Zalmi into their fifth PSL final, making them the most frequent finalists in the tournament’s history. Despite the defeat, Islamabad United remain in contention and will have another opportunity to reach the final through the playoffs.
