Metro53 - ISLAMABAD: Reports have surfaced that Pakistan may be considering the acquisition of China’s advanced HQ-19 anti-ballistic missile system in what is being described as a potentially significant development for the regional strategic balance.
A report published by Defence Security Asia said the possible deal could be valued at around $12 billion, though no official confirmation has so far been issued by either Pakistan or China.
According to the report, the HQ-19 is designed to intercept ballistic missiles and other high-speed aerial threats at high altitude, potentially adding a new layer to Pakistan’s missile defence architecture if inducted into service. Analysts say such a move could have implications for the broader strategic environment in South Asia.
However, independent official details regarding the scope, timeline or finalisation of any such agreement were not immediately available. As of Saturday, there had been no formal announcement from the governments of Pakistan or China.
