Metro53 - LAHORE: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Saturday criticised the latest increase in petroleum prices, saying the government had turned petrol into a source of revenue.
Reacting to the latest hike, he said the authorities cited international market trends while continuing to impose heavy levies on consumers.
Mr Naeem said petroleum levy had no direct link with the base price of petrol, alleging that more than Rs150 per litre was being collected in taxes and levies.
The criticism came after the federal government raised petrol prices by Rs14.92 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs414.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel was increased by Rs15 per litre to Rs414.58 per litre.
