Metro53 - LAHORE: Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister Ali Dar has defended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar against criticism regarding his financial status, saying that his family's business background and professional achievements predate his entry into politics.
Speaking during a media interaction, Ali Dar said that Ishaq Dar's father owned a bicycle dealership at a time when the business carried significant commercial value. He remarked that the bicycle trade in those days was comparable to owning a luxury automobile dealership in the modern era.
He further stated that Ishaq Dar owned a Mercedes vehicle before 1980 and had established himself professionally long before entering public office. According to Ali Dar, the veteran politician worked as a chartered accountant in the textile industry in the United Kingdom and later gained extensive business experience through industrial ventures in Libya.
Ali Dar said that Ishaq Dar's financial success was the result of years of professional work and business expertise. He noted that Dar later went on to serve as president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce, reflecting his standing within the country's business community.
Responding to critics, Ali Dar maintained that the family belonged to a prosperous landowning background and had long enjoyed financial stability. He argued that attempts to portray Ishaq Dar's rise as sudden or unexplained ignored the family's business history and his professional accomplishments.
The remarks come amid ongoing public debate and political criticism regarding the assets and financial backgrounds of senior political figures in Pakistan.
