Metro53 - MUZAFFARGARH: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted major enforcement operations on Jhang Road and Multan Road, seizing a tanker carrying adulterated cooking oil and intercepting a large consignment of substandard milk, officials said on Thursday.
According to Director General Punjab Food Authority Syed Musa Raza, a tanker transporting oil prepared from animal fat was intercepted during an inspection on Jhang Road. Laboratory analysis confirmed that the oil was hazardous to human health, prompting authorities to dispose of approximately 15,000 litres of the product.
In a separate operation on Multan Road, PFA teams set up a checkpoint and stopped the supply of 2,000 litres of substandard milk. On-the-spot testing revealed deficiencies in natural fat content and nutritional value, rendering the milk unfit for consumption.
The confiscated oil and milk were destroyed at a designated dumping site in accordance with the Punjab government's environmentally friendly disposal policy, officials said.
Mr Raza urged citizens to avoid purchasing unverified loose cooking oil, spices and other food items, warning that such products often pose serious health risks. He reiterated that the sale of open and unpackaged food items is prohibited under Punjab Food Authority regulations.
The PFA chief said the authority would continue its crackdown on food adulteration under its zero-tolerance policy, adding that strict action would be taken against those involved in the production and distribution of unsafe food products.
He reaffirmed the authority's commitment to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food for consumers across the province
