Metro53 - BRESCIA/GUJRAT: A Pakistani national from Gujrat district has been praised for his bravery after intervening to stop an alleged attacker from harming two children at a public park in the Italian city of Brescia.
According to local reports, the incident occurred at Alberini Park, where a 29-year-old Nigerian man allegedly attacked children who were playing in the area and attempted to strangle them.
Witnessing the unfolding situation, Naveed Aslam, a Pakistani citizen originally from Gujrat, rushed to the scene and restrained the suspect despite putting his own safety at risk. He managed to hold the attacker until law enforcement officers arrived and took the suspect into custody.
Mr Aslam sustained injuries during the struggle but remained determined to prevent further harm to the children.
In recognition of his courageous actions, Laura Castelletti, the mayor of Brescia, has announced a special ceremony to be held at the city council on June 26. During the event, Mr Aslam will be presented with a certificate of appreciation for his courage and sense of civic responsibility.
Speaking after the incident, Mr Aslam said that saving the lives of children was a human duty and that the appreciation and applause he received from members of the public were the greatest reward for him.
His swift intervention is being credited with preventing what could have become a serious tragedy.
