Metro53 - MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has shared a personal anecdote about his 15-month-old granddaughter, claiming that she greets a photograph of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi every morning and symbolically offers him a laddu.

Speaking during a recent interview, Shetty reiterated his admiration for the Indian leader, stressing that his appreciation was for Modi as an individual rather than for any particular political party.

“I have always said that I am a huge admirer of him. I am not talking about a political party; I am talking about a leader. He inspires me. Just as much as I love my country, I love this man,” the actor said.

Recalling an incident involving his granddaughter, Shetty said a caregiver had once pointed out Modi’s photograph at an airport and identified him as “Modi Ji.” Since then, according to the actor, the child has developed a routine of recognising the prime minister’s image.

He said that every morning his granddaughter opens a book containing a large photograph of Modi, repeatedly says “Modi Ji, Modi Ji,” and then takes a laddu from a nearby idol of Lord Ganesha before placing it in front of the photograph.

The actor maintained that neither he, the child’s mother, nor the family’s domestic staff had encouraged the behaviour. “There is something special about him,” Shetty remarked, adding that he believed the child’s actions reflected a natural connection rather than any form of prompting.

His comments have attracted considerable attention on social media, where supporters viewed the story as a reflection of Modi’s popularity, while critics questioned the significance of attributing political symbolism to a young child’s behaviour.

The remarks have once again highlighted the actor’s long-standing admiration for the Indian prime minister, a position he has expressed publicly on several occasions in recent years.
