Metro53 - ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), providing modest relief to consumers, with the revised rates taking effect immediately from midnight.
According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the prices of both petrol and HSD have been reduced by Rs1.97 per litre.
Following the revision, the price of petrol has been set at Rs297.53 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now retail at Rs309.50 per litre.
The government has also revised the petroleum levy structure alongside the price adjustment.
Under the new mechanism, the petroleum levy on petrol has been increased by Rs6.22 per litre, rising from Rs64.14 to Rs70.36 per litre.
In contrast, the levy on high-speed diesel has been reduced by Rs6.22 per litre, bringing it down from Rs77.04 to Rs70.82 per litre.
The notification stated that there has been no change in the petroleum levy on kerosene oil, which remains unchanged at Rs20.36 per litre.
The revised fuel prices came into force from 12:00am, in line with the government's fortnightly review of petroleum product prices.
