Metro53 - GUJRAT: Two suspected robbers were killed after allegedly being struck by gunfire from their own accomplices during a police operation in the jurisdiction of Kunjah police station, officials said on Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred near Jassoki Mor, where officers had established a checkpoint as part of routine security measures.
Police said four men travelling on motorcycles were signalled to stop, but they allegedly opened fire on the officers and attempted to flee, prompting an exchange of gunfire.
After the firing subsided, police launched a search operation in the area and found two armed suspects injured. The men were identified as Ghulam Murtaza and Zubair.
Police claimed the suspects had been hit by bullets fired by their fleeing accomplices during the encounter.
The injured men were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to their injuries on the way, police said.
Authorities added that a search operation is underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects who managed to escape. The police account of the incident could not be independently verified.
