Metro53 - GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a proclaimed human smuggler during an operation conducted by its Gujrat Circle, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an FIA Gujranwala Zone spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Zafran Abbas alias Irfan Jogi, was taken into custody in a targeted operation. He is also wanted in eight other human smuggling cases.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly promised to arrange the victim's legal travel to Türkiye but instead smuggled him through Iran using an illegal route.
The FIA spokesperson said Pakistan's embassy in Türkiye later confirmed the death of the victim.
Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the case and the suspect's alleged involvement in other human smuggling operations.
