Metro53 - GUJRAT (Mirza Adil): Gujrat Police have claimed to solve the blind murder of a fruit vendor in the Industrial Estate Phase-II area, arresting the alleged main suspect with the weapon believed to have been used in the crime and the motorcycle allegedly used during the incident.
Police have also detained a woman who is allegedly suspected of assisting in the planning of the murder, while efforts are underway to arrest another alleged suspect who is currently residing in Saudi Arabia.
According to police, Muhammad Saleem informed Industrial Estate Phase-II Police that his brother, Muhammad Mazhar Iqbal, used to operate a fruit cart near the Saroki Canal Bridge.
Police said that on August 1, 2026, an unidentified man approached Mazhar Iqbal and remained there for some time, apparently talking to him about the purchase and sale of fruit. According to the investigation, the suspect opened fire on Mazhar Iqbal while leaving the area, killing him before fleeing the scene.
Police Launch Investigation
A heavy contingent of police reached the crime scene shortly after the incident was reported. Officials from the Crime Scene Unit and the Punjab Forensic Science Agency collected evidence from the scene.
A murder case was subsequently registered against an unidentified suspect on the complaint of the victim's brother.
Gujrat District Police Officer Faisal Shehzad assigned a special task to Sub-Inspector Tahir Zaman, Station House Officer of Industrial Estate Phase-II Police Station, and his team to trace the suspect and solve the murder.
Main Suspect Arrested
According to police, the investigation team used modern technology and examined the case from multiple angles. Police claimed that the team identified and arrested the alleged main suspect, Falak Sher, within a short period.
Police said the alleged murder weapon and the motorcycle purportedly used in the crime were recovered from his possession.
Police Reveal Alleged Motive
According to police, Falak Sher allegedly told investigators that his friend Ahmed, who is currently living in Saudi Arabia, had been in contact with him.
Police said Ahmed allegedly told Falak Sher that the victim had been attempting to establish a relationship with his wife. According to the police account, Ahmed also allegedly arranged contact between his wife and Falak Sher, after which the three allegedly planned the murder.
Police further stated that during interrogation, Falak Sher allegedly confessed to shooting Muhammad Mazhar Iqbal on August 1 and fleeing the scene.
Woman Detained, Action Underway Against Suspect in Saudi Arabia
Police said Zainat Bibi, the wife of the Saudi-based suspect, was also detained following information provided by the arrested suspect. She is allegedly suspected of assisting in the planning of the murder.
Meanwhile, police said efforts are underway to take legal action for the arrest of Ahmed, who is currently residing in Saudi Arabia.
Police officials said further investigation is underway and legal proceedings are being conducted on the basis of information and evidence collected during the investigation.
