Metro53 - Beijing (Web Desk): China has achieved another major breakthrough in advanced transportation technology by setting a new world record with the fastest magnetic levitation (maglev) train.
The cutting-edge train accelerated to an astonishing speed of 700 kilometers per hour in just two seconds, moving so fast that it disappeared from sight in the blink of an eye.
The successful test was conducted by researchers from China’s National University of Defense Technology. During the trial run, a vehicle weighing approximately 1,000 kilograms was propelled to the extraordinary speed within an extremely short time.
The test took place on a 400-meter-long maglev track, where the train safely decelerated and came to a stop after reaching peak speed. With this achievement, it has become the world’s fastest superconducting electric maglev train.
Test footage shows the train streaking across the track like a flash of silver lightning, making it nearly impossible to follow with the naked eye. A faint mist-like trail can be seen behind it, resembling a scene from a science fiction film.
The train remains suspended above the track using superconducting magnets, completely eliminating friction and allowing unprecedented acceleration and speed. Experts say the system is so powerful that similar electromagnetic acceleration technology could even be used to launch rockets.
In the future, this technology could enable travel between distant cities in just a few minutes. The team behind the project has been researching this technology for the past ten years.
It is worth noting that in an earlier test conducted on the same track in January this year, the train achieved a speed of 648 kilometers per hour. Nearly three decades ago, the same university developed China’s first manned single-bogie maglev train, making China the third country in the world to master this advanced technology.
