Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk): Provincial Minister for Local Government Bilal Yaseen made a surprise visit to Gujrat to assess drainage and sewerage arrangements in the city ahead of the monsoon season. The visit aimed to inspect preventive measures and the readiness of relevant departments to mitigate potential problems caused by heavy rainfall.
During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Gujrat Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi briefed the minister on ongoing development work, while DG WASA Punjab Tayyab Fareed, Deputy Managing Director WASA Hussain Faisal Bhalli, and Director Engineering WASA Sheikh Abdul Wahab accompanied him. WASA officials provided a detailed briefing on city-wide drainage and sewerage systems, including cleanup drives completed before the monsoon and ongoing projects.
The briefing highlighted that all major drainage lines, manholes, and nullahs are being cleared swiftly to minimize waterlogging risks during the rainy season. Provincial Minister Bilal Yaseen appreciated WASA Gujrat’s proactive preparations, emphasizing that timely action is crucial to protect citizens from inconvenience.
He expressed satisfaction with WASA Gujrat’s overall performance and reiterated that providing relief to residents during the monsoon is the government’s top priority. The minister warned that no negligence or lapses in the drainage system would be tolerated.
DG WASA Punjab, Tayyab Fareed, instructed all disposal stations and field teams to remain on 24-hour alert and stressed the importance of immediate response to any complaints, ensuring staff readiness to handle emergencies during heavy rainfall.
The surprise visit by the Provincial Minister has been welcomed by citizens, raising expectations that Gujrat residents will experience significant relief from drainage-related issues during the upcoming monsoon season.
