Metro53 - Lahore (Web Desk) – Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has reportedly been decided upon as the new head coach of the Pakistan national Test team.
According to media sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to make a formal announcement soon. Sarfaraz is likely to begin his tenure with the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh national cricket team.
The position had remained vacant following the resignation of former Australian head coach Jason Gillespie. During the series against South Africa national cricket team, Azhar Mahmood served as interim head coach.
Pakistan is scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in May, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2027 cycle. The first Test will begin on May 8, followed by the second Test starting on May 16.
Previously, Sarfaraz Ahmed was appointed mentor of Pakistan’s Under-19 team. Under his mentorship, the side won the Asia Cup, and he also served as mentor during the recent Under-19 World Cup campaign.
