Metro53 - Morocco (Web Desk) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned the result of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 final, declaring Morocco as the winner following a controversial incident.
On January 18, Senegal had defeated Morocco 1-0 in the final. However, a critical moment arose when Morocco was awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, prompting Senegalese players to refuse to continue playing in protest. After a 17-minute delay, the game resumed. Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, while Papé Gueye scored in extra time to give Senegal the lead.
Following an appeal by the Morocco Football Federation, CAF’s Appeals Committee ruled that Senegal violated the code of conduct. The board acknowledged Morocco’s appeal, stating that leaving the field is equivalent to forfeiting the match, and the final was officially recorded as a 3-0 win in favor of Morocco.
Senegal Football Federation, however, has called the decision unfair and announced plans to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
