Metro53 - Gujrat (Web Desk) — The 26th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) of the University of Gujrat was held at Hafiz Hayat Campus.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor ul Haq chaired the meeting online and emphasized that ensuring transparency in the system of higher research education and completing research theses within the مقررہ timeframe is the primary responsibility of both research scholars and supervisors. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Faisal Mehmood Mirza, represented the Vice Chancellor on campus and led the session, while Deputy Registrar AS&RB, Sarwat Khurshid, performed supporting duties.
It is worth mentioning that the core objective of the Advanced Studies and Research Board is to formulate strategies for higher education programs including PhD, MPhil, MS, and LLM, review ongoing research activities, and further improve and expand the scope of research work. The board is also responsible for reviewing academic programs, approving and revising research proposals, and guiding students to promote academic and research excellence.
At the beginning of the meeting, the recommendations and agenda of the 25th session were approved. During the current meeting, members held detailed discussions and reviewed MPhil and PhD programs across various departments of the University of Gujrat, offering useful suggestions for further improvement.
Research scholars at MPhil and PhD levels, along with their supervisors and departmental heads, presented their research topics, highlighting their objectives and significance, and provided satisfactory responses to queries.
According to the regulations of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the maximum duration for completion of an MPhil program is 4 years, while a PhD program must be completed within 8 years.
The meeting was attended by Faculty Deans including Prof. Dr. Shahid Iqbal, Prof. Dr. Zahid Yousaf, Prof. Dr. Adil Rashid, Director FADFA Prof. Muhammad Asif Sharif, members of AS&RB from affiliated colleges, Director ORIC, Director QEC, and senior professors from various departments.
