Metro53 - New York: Brazilian athlete and social media influencer Mara Flavia has died after drowning during the Ironman triathlon event held in Texas.

The 38-year-old was participating in the open-water swimming segment of the race when she suddenly went missing. Rescue officials received reports of a missing swimmer at around 7:30 a.m., after which a search operation was immediately launched.

According to reports, poor visibility conditions made rescue efforts difficult. However, after nearly two hours, a diving team recovered her body from the water.

Local authorities confirmed that Mara Flavia died due to drowning during the swimming stage of the competition, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Just two days before the tragedy, she shared her final Instagram post showing herself sitting by a swimming pool with the caption: “Another day of work.”

She had over 60,000 followers on social media and was a well-known figure in Brazil’s triathlon community. Mara Flavia had also previously won the Brazilian Grand Prix twice.
