Metro53 - KARACHI/MOGADISHU: A vessel sailing off the coast of Somalia has reportedly been hijacked by pirates, with more than 10 Pakistani nationals taken hostage, including individuals from Karachi.

According to family members, the ship was en route from Oman to Fujairah when it was seized. Communication with those onboard has since been lost, heightening concerns among relatives.

Families of the abducted individuals — identified as Imran, Ameen, Hussain, Kashif and Yasir — expressed distress, stating that no concrete assistance had yet been provided by authorities. They urged the government to take immediate steps to secure the safe release of the hostages.

Relatives shared personal details highlighting the human impact of the incident. Ameen Shams is said to be the father of two young children, including a four-month-old infant, while Syed Kashif has four children. Hussain is reported to have three children, and one of his sons is said to be waiting for his father’s return.

Officials from Geo News reported that the Governor of Sindh had contacted some families by phone, assuring them of support. However, families say they are still awaiting tangible action.

There has been no official confirmation yet from maritime authorities regarding the current status of the vessel or negotiations with the pirates.

The incident underscores ongoing risks in maritime routes near Somalia, where piracy, though reduced in recent years, still poses a threat to commercial shipping.
