Metro53 - The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Wednesday arrested Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Falak Javed, sister of Sanam Javed, in connection with cases pertaining to alleged anti-state propaganda and the circulation of a doctored video of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.
Officials said Ms Javed was taken into custody from Lahore’s Ichhra area, more than a year after she went into hiding. She had earlier been declared an absconder for failing to cooperate with investigators. Following her arrest, she was shifted to the Women Police Station and is expected to be produced before court today (Thursday).
According to authorities, Ms Javed was wanted in two separate cases: one involving alleged propaganda against state institutions on social media, and another concerning a manipulated video of Ms Bukhari posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The case relating to the doctored video was registered last year after Ms Bukhari filed a complaint, alleging that the clip shared by the PTI activist on July 24 had been widely circulated and damaged her reputation. The minister also sought the freezing of Ms Javed’s bank accounts, placement of her name on the Exit Control List, and the submission of an FIA inquiry report.
Despite warrants and an FIA team being constituted for her arrest, Ms Javed had remained at large, with Ms Bukhari’s legal team criticising the delay in her apprehension. They pointed out in court proceedings that the PTI activist had even attended a rally in Islamabad, where she continued to post videos online.
