Inter-district fraudster arrested in Gujrat; cash, gold worth Rs7m recovered

Metro53 - GUJRAT: Police have arrested an inter-district fraudster involved in multiple cases of cheating citizens and recovered cash and gold ornaments worth Rs7 million, officials said.

According to police, the suspect had been operating in the City Circle area, targeting unsuspecting people by posing as a helper and luring them with promises of high returns. He allegedly exaggerated the value of Iranian currency to convince victims to hand over large sums of money and gold jewellery before fleeing.

Following complaints, Gujrat police formed special teams to trace the suspect. With the help of Safe City surveillance, the accused was eventually tracked down and arrested.

During interrogation, police recovered Rs3.7 million in cash and gold ornaments worth Rs3.3 million from his possession.

Police said cases had already been registered against the suspect at Civil Lines, A Division and B Division police stations in Gujrat, while he was also involved in fraud incidents in Saddar Gujrat police limits. Additionally, dozens of similar cases have been registered against him in Rawalpindi and Mandi Bahauddin districts.

The accused, identified as Qaiser Mehmood, son of Altaf and a resident of Tench Bhatta, Rawalpindi, was found in possession of stolen assets worth Rs7 million.

The recovered cash and jewellery were handed over to the rightful owners during a ceremony held at the DPO Complex Gujrat. Victims appreciated the police performance and expressed gratitude for the recovery of their valuables.
