Metro53 - WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday warned that Washington could launch fresh strikes on Iran if Tehran “misbehaves”, as he reviewed a new Iranian proposal aimed at easing tensions between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters before departing from West Palm Beach, Florida, Mr Trump said he had been briefed on the broad outline of the proposal but was still awaiting its exact wording.

“I’ve been told about the concept of the deal. They’re going to give me the exact wording now,” he said.

Asked whether the United States might resume military action, Mr Trump said he would not rule out the possibility.

“If they misbehave, if they do something bad, we’ll see. But it’s a possibility,” he said.

The U.S. president also expressed scepticism over the latest Iranian proposals, saying he did not believe they would ultimately prove acceptable.

Mr Trump said Iran appeared eager to reach an agreement because it had been severely weakened by recent developments. He also defended the U.S. blockade measures, describing them as part of Washington’s broader strategy to maintain pressure on Tehran.

Separately, Mr Trump confirmed that more than 5,000 American troops would be withdrawn from Germany, signalling another adjustment in U.S. military deployments overseas
